INSURANCE HELP FOR INDIVIDUALS AND BUSINESSES
THE PROBLEM
Do you think about your home, auto, or business insurance often? Probably not, if you are like most people. The typical insurance-related mantra I hear is “buy it and forget it,” because buying insurance is not at the top of many fun-to-do lists.
But that’s a problem. You visit an insurance website, or you sit down with an insurance agent, and you answer a few application questions. When you are done, you put insurance out of your mind and move on to one of the other things demanding your attention. However, if something was overlooked during the application process, it likely will not be discovered until the time that you have a claim. At that point, it is too late to add coverage that you may have needed beforehand.
UNDERSTANDING THE PROCESS IS IMPORTANT
The insurance industry appears complicated to those who do not work in it. It’s large, uses language that is not easily understood, and involves the sales process. And, like any sales process, the ultimate goal is to have you purchase a product – not necessarily to protect you against specific risks that may adversely impact your financial situation.
An important fact that is unknown by many is that, in many states, insurance agents are considered “order takers.” This means that their primary duty is to take your insurance order. As a result, you are responsible for telling your insurance agent what coverages and limits of insurance that you would like to purchase. But wait, you might argue that the insurance agent is in a better position to tell you what you need to buy. That may be true, and there are work-arounds to address this issue. So, what should you do? Start by reading this book.
Inside the Insurance Industry – Fourth Edition explains in plain language how the insurance industry works, and what readers need to do in order to make better decisions about their insurance purchase. Ways to saving money are explored, as well as discussing why certain insurance-related areas may be important to consider before locking in policy decisions.
A RESOURCE CONTAINING USEFUL INFORMATION THAT IS HARD TO FIND
There are a great number of books about insurance that have been written for those who work for insurance companies, insurance agencies and other organizations that serve the insurance industry. But there are few books that provide information to individuals and businesses that purchase insurance policies. Inside the Insurance Industry – Fourth Edition provides a unique perspective that readers can incorporate into their insurance decision-making abilities to reduce premiums and to potentially broaden coverages their policy provides.
Did you know that some high schools and colleges these days teach personal finance courses that cover areas such as risk management and insurance? Although many people who are in their 30s and older have not been exposed to such formal learning about these topics.
This book is helpful to people of all ages. And, while younger people will learn a lot from every chapter, even older people will learn several significant things throughout the book that will save them money and help prevent gaps in their current insurance program.
WHAT OTHERS HAVE SAID ABOUT INSIDE THE INSURANCE INDUSTRY – FOURTH EDITION
I invite you to check out our reader reviews and editorials. But one of the things I am most proud of is an email that I received directly from someone who read my book and took the time to reach out to me afterwards.
The email was sent with the subject line, “This book just made insurance…fascinating.” The reader said that she was honestly shocked that a book about insurance could be so engaging, and that I didn’t just simplify a complex topic, I demystified it in a way that made her feel like she’s been walking around half-blind about something that affects every corner of her life and business.
